If You Could Bloom Just One Day Or Less...

Would you go flamboyant ? This hibiscus puts it out there for everyone to see with its huge red , wide open, blossom. That's a lot of flower for just one day!

Maybe elegance would be nice. The fragile blue blossom atop delicate foliage of this perennial flax is so lovely. Sometimes it coyly drops its petals in less than a day.

Perhaps you might glow with a light from within like "Grandpa Ott" morning glory. This purple blossom with a red star that seems to have a light source all its own is a sure attention getter.

Today these blooms had their one chance for pollination. They made the best of it. Tomorrow other blossoms will take their place. In the garden and in life, when it's your chance to bloom , go for it in the style that suits you best!

Flamboyant For A Day

What could be more flamboyant than a red hibiscus? I first saw flowers like these driving by a house at, let's say 55 miles per hour. At that speed or even faster, hibiscus flowers are a real eye catcher. The first Hibiscus plant I bought turned out to be white trimmed with pink. It's beautiful with many large flowers and I love it.Last year I got a chance to buy the red.Wow!

Evening is approaching, and the day's hibiscus flowers are closing up. They are big and glorious, but one day is all they get. Tomorrow there will be new flowers to take their turn at being flamboyant. I still drive by the house where I first saw the red hibiscus flowers. This year that plant is gone. Being in zone 4 I consider myself lucky whenever my hibiscus plants come back in the spring. Just how long can beauty that intense last anyway?

Touch of the Tropics

This hibiscus is on its second year here. It's planted on the south side of the stone wall to give it a better chance at survival. The big flowers are glorious, and the plant blooms for quite awhile. The individual flowers usually last a day, sometimes less. Let's face it staying that gorgeous long term would be tough!

Can you see the mental picture of this flower behind one ear, a flowered bikini and a Hawaiian beach? I sure can. Yes, some images need more help from photo shop than others. Still it's pretty neat for upstate New York!
