Found: My Siberian Squill

My lost Siberian squill have been located. Perhaps it is because they were planted in 3 different spots that caused me to totally forget where I put them. Every year it becomes clearer to me that labeling plants when you plant them is important. I suppose the time may come when I no longer care what the flowers are , just that they are lovely. I'm not there yet, and I hope I won't be for some time. Anyway,the issue of digging up bulbs when planting something else will always remain.In the first picture the squill are over by the fence near the driveway.



These are planted on either side of the allium bed directly in front of the house. Stone markers will be made today.




All week I have been trying to get a good picture of these giant glory of the snow flowers. The white centers ruined the picture every time. Finally I went out after the sun had set to take this one. Beautiful blue flowers from bulbs are a special early spring treat!

Bunny Brunch

I nearly missed getting a picture of my new Giant Glory of the Snow .The clumps of flowers were so beautiful and this is the last remaining bloom. As you can see it too is slightly damaged.I'm aware that the Stone Wall Garden is the place to be if you are a rabbit. I'm sure Mr. Rabbit went home to his burrow and said, "Honey, I saw the most delicious looking flowers when I went by the Stone Wall Garden.I haven't taken you anyplace really nice for awhile.You're wearing such a lovely fur. Let's splurge!"

Unfortunately I get stuck picking up the tab every time. I actually had no idea that early spring bulbs would be so inviting to the rabbits. The bulb catalogs don't say " These bulbs are especially good for attracting rabbits to your garden." This restaurant needs a better bouncer and more wire to keep out unwanted patrons.

Today we are getting a nice spring rain with the temperature in the fifties. The grass is greening and the trees are getting some color almost while you watch. Maybe an acre of green grass will take some of the rabbit pressure off the garden plants. I hope so!

Giant Glory of the Snow

I got one of those great bulb catalogs with 50% off last fall. I just couldn't resist a sale like that. New bulbs make for some great surprises in the spring. Now that we have had some warm days and rain, the bulbs are exploding out of the ground. It is amazing how quickly they can grow. These are Giant Glory of the Snow. I've never had them before, but I think they are lovely. The dead looking plant in the background is a butterfly bush. The jury is still out on that one.

Because of the rain, and because I have been doing a lot of Benadryl induced sleeping, I have been absent from the garden for a couple of days. The itching is subsiding, so I hope to be back at it soon. The S word was mentioned in our forecast for tomorrow. It's April in Upstate New York, snow is to be expected.
